Pyramid colour technology, a division of ASTO TRUST, was established during 1989 as a research and development body of specialized coatings and chemicals.

During 1991, a sector of the mining industry recorded concrete failure due to excessive underground water which was aggravated by nitrous pollution.

PCT conducted investigations when is was found that excessive water was leaching the lime from the concrete, thereby reducing the mechanical properties where steel shaft guides were fixed to the concrete, resulting in an increased safety risk.

No commercial product was available to permanently prevent the penetration of water or moisture into cementitious surfaces.

Further research followed, and in September 1991 the first batch of “PCT 56 Water Repellent Technology|" was produced.
